ABOUT DIABETES CHRISTCHURCH
Barnaby Bee was developed by Diabetes Christchurch to raise AWARENESS about diabetes and he carries the Diabetes “Bee Aware” emblem on his wings.
We provide support for our members, community education and awareness programmes, brochures, information leaflets and resources about diabetes, support for research, advocacy and lobbying for people with diabetes, and sponsorship.
We also have numerous volunteers who help at our diabetes information stalls, at the A & P Show and Ellesmere Show, hospital stall and various health expos, as well as other activities throughout the year and especially during Diabetes Awareness Week in November each year.
We write submissions to the Ministry of Health and PHARMAC, as well as lobbying and advocating to the CDHB on local issues for people with diabetes.
The committee meets on the last Monday of each month to organise awareness events, market day sales, education meetings, as well as various fundraising projects to support our many members. We collaborate with Diabetes NZ Youth Canterbury, and are interactively involved with various other professional diabetes service providers as well as with many other like-minded associated community groups and organisations.
We stock the full range of replacement insulin pens, and log books. Currently we are unable to dispose of sharps but we can provide approved containers.
Diabetes Christchurch also provides a range of aged related support groups who meet monthly and we have an armchair exercise group who meet each week on Friday mornings~ you are most welcome to attend any of these. We have a a large variety of diabetes information leaflets and brochures, diabetes recipe books, diabetes educational material and videos available.
